Sunnybank Village Precinct Project

Artfully was engaged by Brisbane City Council to provide curatorial and project management services to the Sunnybank Village Precinct Project which involved improvements to a small suburban centre, including: upgrading the streetscape with new footpaths, street furniture, planting, lighting and other amenities. Artfully assisted in scoping the public art opportunities (2 works), in managing an artist selection process (a curated list of invited artists for client group shortlisting), a direct commission concept phase (2 artists – 1 per opportunity) and scoping and managing a community engagement process. The commissioned artists engaged with students (year 8s and year 11s) from the nearby Sunnybank State High School to workshop the curatorial framework ‘Oasis’, enabling students to creatively engage with the public precinct and to inform the artists’ artwork designs. Beth liaised with the school, attended workshops, and reported outcomes.
Artwork outcomes involved a mural by Sirmano, and integrated designs – text work inlaid into pavement and gobo lighting projections – by Sebastian Moody.
